“Sins of the Amish”

I just watched this 2 part series on Peacock and as you may imagine, it chilled me to my core.

Over and over and over fundamentalist and/or conservative religious communities are found to serve as safe harbors for abusers, pedophiles, and rapists. The Catholic Church. FLDS. OJC. Southern Baptist. This doc offers a horrifying piece of insight into how this holds true for Amish and conservative Mennonite communities.

I am not shocked that people who build their societies on foundations of strict control, misogyny, homophobia, etc.; who value repression, shame, “”””””purity”””””; who specifically relegate women to only roles of mothering and home making; are also the cites of this type of heinous abuse. Not shocked, but still fully disgusted and enraged beyond belief.
